Hoima activist arrested for attempting to Tarmac Dilapidated UNRA road

Kato the “engineer” being whisked away

Counsel and activist Ronald Kato Rwahwire has been arrested for blocking Hoima-Fort Portal road which has for the past 4 years been under unimaginable conditions. He was protesting over the potholed road which has so far claimed several lives yet there seems to be no plans by the Authorities to repair it.

The said Portion of the road is under the mandate of UNRA as the world Bank’s USMID fund only catered for the Local government roads.

Kato who is said to have mobilized several wheel barrows, Heaps of Soil, a “men at work” signage, hoes and pangas, started to Construct the road on his own before the Police came to whisk him away as the residents shouted in jubilation.

Hoima leaders have of recent been in the spotlight for Incompetence and gross negligence as regards implementation of most government projects as well as being involved in extreme Land Registry malpractices and abuse of office which saw a former RDC being arrested by the Land commission a few days ago and this small action by Kato is bound to raise more eye brows towards the Oil rich region also now known as “Oil City”.
