The Uganda Volleyball Federation (UVF) has taken a decision to suspend Nicholas Obeke, a Kyambogo University Volleyball team coach who was recorded on video while assaulting the players. According to the UVF President, Sadik Nassiwu, “Obeke’s violent conduct tarnishes the name of the game and we wish to distance ourselves from his act, we’ve thus agreed to suspend him. When the disciplinary committee sits, it will decide on how long his suspension will last.”
Obeke lost his cool after learning that the students that had been entrusted with him had escaped from the camp and gone clubbing, some of the girls were reported to have had sex while the dudes went on a beer binging spree much to the annoyance of their coach.
While speaking to CampusEye, Obeke said; “the parents came to me and said they were only giving me these students on condition that none of them is involved in alcoholism and sex acts. I told these students that the boundaries should not be crossed and none of them should leave the camping grounds without my permission. I later learned that some of the girls had escaped and had sex while the dudes reported back drunk to the camp. I lost my cool. Imagine parents entrusting me with their children, then they hear all these stories, I had to summon my paternalistic instincts. I regret nothing, I assure you, even if I am suspended, I will go home proud, time will vindicate me, “Obeke told us.
Obeke is a professional volleyball coach attached to Kyambogo University, Nkumba University and St.Mary’s Kitende. He’s a strict disciplinarian who expects the best from his players.
